From the Book of Ruth, read on Shavuot:

Naomi replied, "Return my daughters. Why should you go with me? Are there sons in my womb who might be husbands for you? Return my daughters, go your way...."

They lifted up their voices and wept; and Orpah kissed her mother in law farewell, but Ruth clung to her. So she said: "Look, your sister in law has returned to her people and to her gods. Follow her."

But Ruth said, "Entreat me not to leave you, or to return from following after you. For wherever you go, I will go; wherever you lodge, I will lodge. Your people will be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do thus to me and more as well, if anything but death parts me from you."
